All vehicle rentals are governed by a comprehensive Rental Agreement, which you will receive upon booking confirmation or at the time of vehicle pickup. This document outlines the specific terms, conditions, insurance information, fees, and your obligations for the rental. In case of any discrepancies between these Terms and the Rental Agreement, the Rental Agreement will prevail.
Eligibility Criteria
Requirements for Vehicle Rental
- To rent a vehicle in Skelmersdale, you must be at least 21 years of age, though age restrictions may differ depending on the vehicle type, with potential extra fees for drivers under 25. A valid, full driving licence suitable for the vehicle category is required, along with proof of identity and current address. Valid payment details and a security deposit are necessary, as well as any additional criteria outlined in the Rental Agreement.
Booking Process and Payments
- Reservations can be arranged via our website, over the phone, or at our Skelmersdale office. A deposit may be necessary to confirm your booking. Full payment and a security deposit are usually payable upon vehicle pick-up. All charges are in British Pounds (£) and include VAT where applicable. We accept major credit and debit cards, processed securely through established payment providers.
4. Vehicle Pickup and Drop-off
- At the time of collection in Skelmersdale, it is important to conduct a thorough inspection of the vehicle and report any pre-existing damage without delay. A vehicle condition report will be completed and signed to document its state. Upon returning the vehicle, it should be in the same condition as at collection, accounting for normal wear and tear. Any new damage will be evaluated and charged accordingly. The vehicle must be returned with the same fuel level as when collected; refueling charges will apply if the fuel level is lower. Late returns may result in extra fees, so please contact us as soon as possible if you anticipate a delay. You remain responsible for any damage or loss up to the insurance excess amount, unless further coverage has been purchased. Damage resulting from negligence or misuse falls under your responsibility, irrespective of any insurance.
Cancellation and Modifications
Cancellation and amendment policies differ based on the type of booking and the notice provided. For precise information, consult your booking confirmation or Rental Agreement. Be aware that late cancellations or failure to show up could incur additional charges.
7. Restricted Activities
Prohibited uses of rented vehicle:
- Use of the vehicle for illegal activities is strictly prohibited. Engaging in racing, rallying, off-roading, or any unsafe driving practices is not allowed. The transport of hazardous materials is forbidden. Sub-letting the vehicle or permitting unauthorized drivers is unacceptable. Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs is prohibited. Vehicles must be used for their intended purposes only. Adherence to passenger and weight limits is required. Driving outside of the agreed geographical boundaries without authorization is not permitted.
Non-compliance with these terms may lead to rental termination and extra fees.
8. Liability Limitations
To the fullest extent allowed by English and Welsh law, Car Hire Skelmersdale is not responsible for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, including loss of profits, data, or business that may arise from the use of our services. Our maximum liability for any claims will not exceed the total amount paid for the rental within the last 12 months. This limitation does not apply to liability for death or personal injury resulting from negligence or fraud.
9. Applicable Law in Skelmersdale
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes will fall under the exclusive jurisdiction of the English and Welsh courts.
10. Modifications to Terms
